Fundamental Concepts
What does clicking on people do?
The faster you are clicking on a player, the more your current movement will get slowed.
I phrase it this way because any movement you have, whether it be forwards, backwards or sideways, will be slowed. (Doesn't include vertical movement)
This means that clicking faster on an opponent will make you take less knockback, and clicking once per hit will make you able to move faster while hitting an opponent (useful later).
Player limits
Player reach in Minecraft is 3 blocks. Each player has a damage cooldown of 0.5 seconds, meaning that after taking damage, they cannot take more damage or knockback until at least 0.5 seconds later (ping can make this less accurate). Also, running while jumping makes you move faster whlie you have no speed and speed I, but for speed II and upwards jumping will only slow you down.
What is the effect of movement speed on pvp?
Having higher movement speed in Minecraft increases the chances of you getting the first hit
(Ping related thing)
, and decreases the amount of kbkb = knockback
you take. Also, in order to deal maximum knockback, you need to have at minimum, a certain amount of momentum. Basically, this means that if your movement speed is really low or you are standing still, you will not deal more than 2 blocks of kb.
Why Jumping is bad
When you are in the air you take more knockback. This concept is most prevalent in sumo, where elevation difference often decides who gets comboed first. However, critting in tight spaces can greatly increase your damage.
Where to aim for the most reach?
Your reach comes from the center of your head. This means that to get the most amount of reach, you should aim for the closest part of your enemy. On flat land this will be parallel to the ground. When your opponent is elevated, try to keep your aim parallel to the ground unless absolutely necessary. Of course, when you are above your opponent, you should aim downwards to their head.
Other kb negating effects
Taking damage from another natural damage source
Meaning not command blocks
like fire, poison, fall damage, and drowning can make your opponent temporarily immune to knockback (while they are flashing red). Fall damage is often used in bedwars to win bridge fights as players will not take knockback for 0.5 seconds after taking fall damage.
