Strafing
At a low level, strafing doesn't make much of a difference. However, later at higher levels being able to comfortably strafe and randomly change directions without thinking about it can be the difference between good players and leaderboard players.

Strafing becomes more important at higher levels of the game. Becoming comfortable with using the strafing keys is important to develop early on.
Use the A and D keys to walk sideways. Making your movement as random as possible will put your enemy's aim slightly behind, which can mean the difference between who gets the first hit.
